Fair Trade is No Passing Trend, & Here's Why

Having been popularized in the latter half of the 20th century, fair trade is an ethical business model that took the world of consumerism by storm. However, many buyers proclaimed with confidence that the movement wouldn't sustain.

Well, tough luck to those pessimists. GGL and the rest of the industry knows good and well that fair trade is no passing trend, and the upcoming 15th International Fair Trade Summit by the World Fair Trade Organization (WFTO) is just another example why.

What to Expect at the Upcoming International Fair Trade Summit

In September, the WFTO will be throwing down once more to show the world that fair trade will be the new norm in no time. Their mission of ethical production, distribution and consumerism shows no signs of halting.

This summit, which will take place in no other than beautiful Lima, Peru, will have an eye on the evolving markets at hand. Various seminars and workshops will work to create the sense of community that the organization is after.

The WFTO is advertising quite of bit of productive fun, giving guests of every background a lot to look forward to. According to their site, highlights for the 15th International Fair Trade Summit include, but are definitely not limited to:

  • Hundreds of fair trade leaders and buyers from innumerable global locations
  • Seminars, workshops and other programs focusing on industry evolutions
  • First-look insights and trends into the market
  • A showcase of fair trade from individual countries

We're Proud to Be a Part of the Movement

Through this peek into the international summit that lies just over the horizon, one thing is blatantly clear. The fair trade movement is on an upward trend, becoming more and more popular as the years go on. That's good news for marginalized workers across the globe who deserve to be treated fairly, and it's good news for a planet that deserves more thoughtful care.

And, we suppose, it's good news for GGL, where we want every reason to keep doing what it is we're doing.
